RE: DeVry Grad

I'm at Devry right now and i'm majoring in accounting and i'm wondering if i can get a job at say KPMG, deloitte, cooper, or a big accounting firm like that. the thing that worries me is that none of them ever show up at devry to recruit.

your thoughts would be helpful.

if not Devry...?

I am interested in a career in networking administration and was contimplating Devry University. After reading everyone's posts i am more confused than ever. From what i've read it seems as though Devry is a quality educator that will give me adequate training. My biggest concern is Devry's reputation. I want to attend a school that will give me the proper training i need , but it seems as though having DeVry on ones resume is a negative. Does anyone have any suggestions?

DeVry

Wow!!! Lots of good post on DeVry. All of you guys are right there is both good and bad things about DeVry.

I work for a large technology company, which employs more than 30,000 people, and have noticed this company really does not like the DeVry degree (I don't believe it has anything to do with the curriculum). They move me into an engineering role, but said they would not hire some one straight out of DeVry.

I completed an undergraduate and more recently an MBA from DeVry University. I got the same question over and over from hiring managers within my company...why DeVry? Why not a real university? I am having a real problem convincing hiring managers on the business side to give me a chance.

With all of that said, I do have a good salary with great benefits and stock options. I am just having a problem moving up the corporate ladder with DeVry University on my resume.

easier than high school... from my experience

I was a DeVry student, and unlike any other DeVry students who had positive experience, I had negative experience. its one of the school with multiple campuses throughout U.S and Canada. Most of them really SUCK, including the campus I attended. Here's my story at DeVry:
When I was a senior in high school, I was desperate with the fact that I couldn't get into Georgia Tech, because my SAT scores were terrible and my gpa was around 3.3. You can't expect to get accepted to GT with that grade, so I didn't bother to apply there. I was planning to enroll in Southern Polytechnic State University and do well there, and transfer to GT. Again with the issues of my SAT score, I got rejected from SPSU. so yeah, I was very desperate back then. I did some research on collegeboard, which is a website that I don't rely on for college search. I found that devry is strong with computers. I was completely convinced by the academic advisor there. I was excited that I got accepted there (lol, laugh all u want), and didn't even bother to apply to different colleges, which I should've. So there, I just slacked off for the rest of my senior year.
My family moved the day after my graduation, so I had to transfer my main campus to Decatur, GA. They let me take courses somewhere closer to where I live. I met some nice people there, and I did make one friend (yes, just one) The professors were also nice. I have no idea what kind of college and real world experience they have been through, but they really sucked at teaching. All I can remember is that I didn't do any work there other than just chilling by myself or with a friend of mine. I still got all As and I barely did any work in any classes.
When I was about to finish my first semester, I felt that me continuing education at devry means I'll end up getting ripped off after I graduate and 4 years of DeVry will be one of the biggest waste in my life. I was right. I talked to my cousin for some recommendations. He recommeded me to apply to one of well known community college, do well there, and transfer to Georgia Tech,. To finish me story, here are some funny things from my experience at devry
1.other students were working their butt off and still couldn't manage to get low B at least – kind of funny to me.
2.One girl was in ENGL092 and I was in ENGL032, both having same instructor at same classroom at the same time. My writing skill was so much better than hers – again kind of funny to me.
3.I was in COMP100, and there was a guy who transferred to devry from virginia tech. He and I knew a lot more about office 2007 than the professor did, who was supposed to teach office 2007 and windows xp.
4.I was in COLL148, and we had a midterm that I will never forget for the rest of my life. The professor gave us the midterm filled with questions that students made up. What's funnier is that we were TOLD to switch papers with another person, and that person becomes your partner, and he/she will finish the rest of your quiz for you, in return, you do the same. That midterm we took was never counted as a grade though, due to a lot of complaints here and there.
5.Devry calls themselves the INSTITUTE of TECHNOLOGY, and every single computers in the campus I took the classes at aren't even worth the value of the public library computers and the computers from my high school computer labs, and maybe the computers from my middle school computer labs.
6.Some more funny things which I can't list them all due

RE: Bought a Degree

lol. I could have not expressed any better, bought a degree. Like he said, the classes are way too easy. Actually, all of my classes at devry were easier than any of the high school classes I took, and I am NOT kidding. Seriously, I didn't give even a little teeny tiny (you get the idea) effort in any of the classes and I still got all A's in all of my classes. And I did give a little effort one day, because I felt like it. The work that I put my effort into was treated pretty much same as the other works that I have done which I didn't put any effort into, and what really ticks me off is that the work that I put my effort into was treated pretty much same as the other people's work that I can easily tell they are really crappy. The professors who teach at the campus I attended... I feel that most of them really don't know what they are teaching, or they just don't take the time to actually teach. It was a waste of my time there.
