I really don't recall reading or hearing anything about the ninth anniversary of Epinions that was posted in the Member Center on Sept 12. Did we discuss it on the message boards? I simply don't remember. (I'm expecting someone to did back a couple of months and find a thread I started about the same thing) Do I hear the twilight Zone theme playing?

Anyways I just read, for what I believe at this moment to be the first time, this...

This week, 9 years ago, on 9/9/99, Epinions made their public appearance to the world. Thank you to all the community members who have contributed to the site over the years. Stay tuned as we begin the countdown to our 10 year anniversary next year.

It seems we are now almost down to just ten months to our tenth anniversary. I'm kinda excited about that when considering all the dot com sites that have come and gone in that era.

So, I am going to "Stay tuned" as the announcement states. I wonder what's up the sleeve of those in Brisbane?

Does anyone know who the first member was? The first five, or ten, or hundred?

How many of those people are still active on the site today?

I joined three months later. There are still a few people I know of who preceded me and are still active, either as hats or reviewers - Grouch and kcfoxy come to mind. Lots of the old-timers still have their pages up - mshawpyle, Poseidon, ptiemann - but they haven't posted regularly in a while.
