Starcomm XV6800

I got the Starcomm XV6800 from Verizon Wireless in Dec. 2007. Great PDA, Lousy phone. If you're going to get a Smartphone you want to look at Windows Mobile 6. Touchscreen makes the whole thing work like a dream, but you also get the QWERTY keypad with this thing. Office Mobile does all of the really necessary functions to your office documents, spreadsheets, etc., although it doesn't seem to print. That may be available as some sort of upgrade or add-on. However, you can view the document, edit the document, refer to the document and then, this device has so many available interfaces that it's usually only a minor issue to move it to a platform that can print it. E-mail, Blue Tooth, removable memory, and USB Sync. I manipulate my spreadsheets on a desktop then refer to the data during the day by opening my cel phone. You can TEXT, E-mail, and MMS your messages. PIX and FLIX. Great PDA.
Here's the rub. The dial button is on the corner of the phone. While you're moving around in a day you WILL end up accidentally calling people. My wife has several lengthy phone messages of me talking to co-workers. Who knows who else has similar messages. The potential for disaster is HUGE! Also, great, bright screen that I can and have used in the middle of the day. It cuts your battery life to about 1/10th of life without the screen. So, no problem, you turn off the screen, right? Yeah, well, what you learn is that everything turns the screen on. If you receive a call, the screen turns on. If you get a reminder, the screen turns on. If you make a call, the screen turns on. So, here's what you have to do with your 6800. At least, it's what I do. After every phone call, I call my voice mail and then turn the unit off. That saves the battery A-N-D if the phone does dial on it's own it's not leaving embarrassing messages. If you turn the screen off whenever possible you will have no trouble making it through the day with a full charge, but if you use the phone or the screen a lot during the day, then you will have to have some sort of plan to keep the thing charged. It does charge S-L-O-W.
I read somewhere that the phone is supposed to charge while you are Sync'ed up, but on my computer if it's 40% when I go to bed, it's 40% when I wake-up. It doesn't discharge, but it doesn't seem to charge. Most cel phones that I've owned charge in the 20 minutes it takes to drive to work. NOT THIS ONE.

By the way, the green DIAL button is on the lower left corner. So, the red hang-up button is on the lower right corner. So, be prepared to also hang-up on people accidentally until you learn how to handle the phone and where not to touch.
Great PDA! Lousy phone.
