1wayphoto.com
I tried to see if anyone else has had bad experience but apparently not...so STAY AWAY from 1wayphoto.com. I tried to buy a Canon 30D. The guy called saying did you know the battery and charger is not included...it said in the description it was...I told him that he says this is a 20minute battery. I was like want to specify next time, so then he says I can have the batter for $200! Yes $200 plus the $800 I am already paying which would make it just as much as a legit place. Then I tell him I work for a newspaper and I will tell everyone not to buy from him after he is done yelling and being rude. He tells me fine I don't care thats what 5 people out of the billions in the world? I was like you are rude. He then told me he owns B&H too which I am suuurreee he does. But stay away its all a scam and the people are rude it took me 2 hours to cancel my order! This left me now with 2 useless lenses and a 4 GB card I ordered elsewhere. This has now happened twice, here and with usaphotonation.com. Honestly are there any ligit camera stores?? |

1WayPhoto.com
Surely the name of this trader should have been a warning to me.
I was sold a lens on the basis it was a just released Sigma lens. When I received the lens it was the older (and cheaper by half) model.
Naturally, I've emailed them but they don't reply so my next recourse is to ring them which frankly I know is going to be a waste of time.
They have $500 of my money so I'd really like it back, or the correct model of the lens I requested in the first place.
At the moment I'm prepared to give 1WayPhoto.con the benefit of the doubt and it was all a mistake. Somehow I doubt it's going to happen.
My other problem is that I'm UK based so I don't know what consumer rights apply for international purchases from US web-sites. |

1 way photo scammers
1 Way Photo is NOT a business you want to do business with. They bait you with a low price, in my case a canon lens, with the search engine showing it is in stock and when you order it, you need to speak to someone via phone call and then the pain begins.
I was told that the lens is out of stock, but they do have a Sigma lens that is "just as good" that is in stock. I said I didn't want the Sigma lens and he told me he couldn't take my order since they don't do back orders.
I pursued this the next day with a web order and no phone followup to see what would happen and the order was taken and I called Customer service a few days later and was told it would arrive in a week-10 days. I called two weeks later and the same sounding guy says the order was canceled due to their not taking backorders. I then asked when was the last time he had these in stock and he said April and that they would be arriving now in about a month. I then asked to cancel my order and take me off their "call-back" list.
A few tips,
1) If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
2) Don't order from a site that has you needing to confirm the order by phone, this is where they do their bait and switch, immediately cancel the order and terminate the call.
3) Get a one time use credit card number from your credit card provider so you won't be at risk from other sinister things that these people will subject you to. The one-time use numbers should be free, are easy to use and will protect you from very bad things.
Stay away from 1 Way Photo and any other retailers that fit the above profile. |

RE: 1wayphoto.com
Yes! They are terrible people -- I just got off of the phone with someone who gave me his name as "Andy Garcia"... thanks. I have spoken with them three times about an order for a Cannon XTi and was told 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, then beginning of July, and now August 17th?! The whole point for me was to have this camera for the 4th of July and now I am going to have to go get it at Best Buy... Although I'd gladly pay twice as much now than ever give any money to 1wayphoto. I was hung up on twice and then when I asked for their business contact info so that I could report them to the Better Business Bureau "Andy" told me that they don't have a phone number or anyone in charge....... wtf?! He finished the conversation by saying that my email will now be blackballed to every spam site that they know... Very very sleazy business -- NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH 1WAYPHOTO! |

RE: 1WayPhoto.com
alistairhay, I believe you are able to dispute your payment through the credit card company.
The website looks fakey. There are a couple more places like that. Express camera in New Jersey is one of them, and more places based in Brooklyn are similar. Usually one retailer owns several different websites.
We should watch out when the price seems too good to be true! |

STAY AWAY fron these guys!! I ordered a Nikon D80 and a Nikon 18mm to 200mm lens. I got the lens right way but every time I call about the body they say they will not get them from Nikon for another 2 weeks - it's been a month now and still no body. The price was too good, I ordered it for $389 not they advertise the same body for $599. Crooks. . . I should have checked on them first. Shame on me. . . I was too impulsive. |

This company is a one man show from what I can gather. If you call the phone #, it sounds legit. However, for sales, you hold and hold and hold, and then get a man that will hang up on you if you want to return something.
Also, he will only issue a return auth to the exact person that ordered the item. He told me that I could not get an RMA for my husband. NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE...THEN HE HUNG UP ON ME WHEN I WANTED TO KNOW WHY.
When I called back for customer service, the recording said they were closed. Then, later I called back and was allowed to leave a message, but the recorder cut me off and hung up on me.
The scam for this company is bait and switch!!!
They advertised a Canon lense at a great price. My husband ordered it, but then got a call saying it was on backorder for a really long time. The sales rep offered a better lens for a better price. hahahaha
Now, we have a useless lens.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE NOT EASY TO DEAL WITH AND HANG UP ON THEIR CUSTOMERS. THE MAN IS RUDE AND WILL TALK IN CIRCLES.
ONE WAY PHOTO = JUST THAT....YOU BUY IT YOU ARE STUCK WITH IT. THEY ONLY SELL ONE WAY AND DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT OR SERVICE.
STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!! |

don't even think about ordering here
BE WARNED--STAY AWAY! Seriously, do yourself a favor...
I ordered a canon30d, with 2 very nice L lenses from them. They used their high pressure tactics on me and tried to sell me an inferior lens which i refused. They also asked if I wanted the L lenses with the plastic mount or the metal mount. I asked what the difference was, and the salesman said if you get the plastic mount it'll break the first time you use it and the warranty won't cover it. So I was like -- OK, then I want the metal mount, at which point he told me the lenses would each be $200-300 more than the online price. He then told me I'd need a 5hour battery with a fast recharger because the battery that comes with the camera only lasts for 30 minutes. Stupidly I bought it. He also sold me a 3 piece filter kit. Finally he told me the total price, which was more than I had expected but I thought it was the extra cost for the lenses and I didn't add it all up and I went through with the deal.
I got my camera and lenses--but no extra battery or recharger. But get this: when I added things up I realized he added $600 to the total cost. For NOTHING. My total bill was $600 more than the seperate items (not including tax & shipping).
Who do they think they are stealing people's money--ripping off their customers? I should have calculated it but he was a fast talker and I don't expect that companies rip off their companies--I didn't think companies could get away with doing that. So, they are closed today but I called my credit card company and I plan to dispute the extra charge but first I have to call them & deal with it and, after reading these reviews, I know that is going to be unpleasant. But it's going to be unpleasant for them, too. So...any advice? I also plan to call my state rep and the attorney general and canon and whoever else I can think of if they don't refund the difference. |

1wayphoto.com=liars and scammers
Terrible vender. Someone called Mike Called repeatedly for confirmation. When I returned call and gave info to Raj, (different salesman) he tried to sell me Sigma instead of Nikon, I refused. They Called 2 more times for confirmation and Mike was "not in" or had "just stepped out". Always talked to Raj, different story every time, backoredered for 3 weeks, in process etc. When I called his bluff and said it was BS,he acted insulted that I would question his bald face lies and he"canceled order" and said I was banned from re-ordering. This was the only good thing.I then recieved e-mail saying out of stock and they would contact me. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE LIARS,SCAMMERS AND SCUM!!!! |

1 way photo is a scam...should have listened to my dad "if it too good to be true it probably is". Thought I was getting a Canon lens but got a Sigma...only for about $400 more than I could have gotten it elsewhere. had to pay $150 restocking fee...got the lens I wanted from amazon.com...though I was disappointed in loosing $150 I was not going to fall for the 1wayphoto scam twice...help put these guys out of business and do yourself a favor and buy from someone else.

RE: 1wayphoto.com
I really believe 1wayphoto and Expresscamera.com are the same operation. I called and blocked my credit card from taking any transations. I tried to order a canon 2.8 70-200 lens and both companies used the same scam to bait and switch. They told me the canon lens was junk and I should get the newer version for just $60 more.... exactly like Express Camera did to me. They hung up on me when I questioned them. Something has to be done...
They don't have a store front only a warehouse in Brooklyn.... and Express Camera claims they are in Jersey.
I am nteract@hotmail.com please let me know what I can do.
I am on a mission to shut people like this down. |

Stay away from 1 Way Photo
Stay from 1 Way Photo. I ordered a Sony HDR-SR8 at their quoted price which seemed like a great deal. I gave them what they asked for. In America that's doing business but not with 1 way photo. Their name described their intent, that the benefit in each sale is 1 way, their way and you the customer is used like an old HO. Immediately they started telling me why this camera was so bad and that Sony would do a recall on the camera and that it had too much memory, who ever heard of too much memory, not in this life time. Any way the camera was priced at $1060 and with additional items the price came to around $1300. Then he tried to sell me a camera that is listed at $200 less for around the same price and acted like I was taking advantage of him. How sad that we have these kind of people in business on the internet. I forgive you 1 way.

RE: 1wayphoto.com
I had a similar bad experience with 1wayphoto.com. They advertised a great price on a Nikon D40. I ordered the silver package which included a "battery and charger" for a total of $370 (a great price). Later that day they called me to confirn the order. They asked why I did not order a battery and charger and quoted prices for 2 units, the cheaper of which would have brought the order total to $550 (a very normal price). When I sounded suprised they offered to upgrade my lens -- however I was unfamiliar with the offered lens and so I could not evaluate the offer. I canceled my order with them -- which cost me a 10% fee despite the fact that they had not processed my order. I will not ever do business with them again. I will repost if there are problems with the credit chage etc... |

1wayphoto scam artists
If you are buying anything Nikon stay away from these people. They sell you gray market items—if they break Nikon will not touch them. You have to take your camera to some obscure jack-leg who most likely can’t fix it anyway. They lied to me about this camera. They also jacked up the price of my package and did not give me a detailed invoice (the BBB has cited them for this). They also gave me a super cheap battery and memory card and charged me a fortune. When I called them on it they wanted a $400 restocking fee. I told them OK then they offered me a $130 credit and did send me a new battery. When I found out a week later they had scammed me with a gray market camera (serial numbers on US made Nikons begin with a 3—mine was a 2) I called for a full refund. The guy I spoke with—I think he runs a one-man show—would not let me talk and started screaming at me. He said I was the worst person he had ever dealt with and he felt sorry for my husband and he would fire the guy who had lied to me, etc. He said he was not afraid of me or my credit card company or the NY Attorney General, and if I took him to court he would make it so expensive I would be sorry. He was a raving lunatic. He finally told me to send everything back but he would still charge me 278 for shipping. Shipping on their site is FREE. When I told him that he said it was for insurance. Insurance was only $28 when I shipped the package back. It has been 3 days and I have sent 3 emails and I still have not received a credit. After looking at their reviews I actually took a photo of the UPS employee putting the camera in the box and had her sign a piece of paper that it was indeed shipped. Oh, BTW, you can only find one site with good reviews on these people—they write them themselves. These people are scammers, liars, and I hope the state of NY shuts them down soon. |

Scam!!
This website is part of a ring of other similar sites that operate in the same manner. The advertise a really low price on the product and when you call in they try to sell you some more expensive accessories. If you refuse the accessories then they tell you that the item is on backorder.
apparently they have these sites are priced higher from eachother as not to arouse suspicion that they are of the same scam. Since they operate the same way the scam is pretty easy to figure out. From what I have found the following online store operate the same fraudulent way:
cameraaddict.com
1wayphoto.com
broadwayphoto.com
thecameraprofessionals.com
bestpricecameras.com
expresscameras.com
fotoconnections.com
expocameras.com
if you do a BBB or google search on these merchants you will see their fraudulent activity.
don't fall into their Trap.
Happy and safe holiday shopping! |

Avoid business with 1wayphoto.com
I will add my sad story to the list...
I had been looking for a Nikon D80 for a Christmas present. The surprisingly low price on the website caught my eye. I checked a few online reviews which seemed to support this as a legitimate and trustworthy business. I placed the order for the Nikon D80 DSLR with the “Advanced” package (28-70mm, 70-30mm lenses and more) for $649.99. I got an E-mail requesting me to “call to confirm” my order. This is when the trouble began.
I spoke with a salesman who did not give me his name. He recommended that I should switch my order to a Nikon D40x because it was “just as good as the D80” and he could give it to me, with the same lenses (28-70mm and 70-300mm), for about $100.00 less. This sounded reasonable so I agreed. He went on explain that the camera only came with a “20 minute disposable battery” I would need to upgrade to a “5 hour long life lithium battery and a professional high speed charging unit” for $150.00 each in order for the camera to function. He also stated that the camera came with a 1 GB memory card but that it would not be compatible with taking fast pictures. He claimed that in order to use the camera to its full ability and take up to 3 frames per second I would need a high speed secure digital memory card, minimum 4 GB, for an additional $150.00. When I hesitated, he generously offered to upgrade the lenses to higher quality Nikon lenses with macro capability and vibration reduction. He also promised to upgrade the tripod, camera case, and card reader. Then he reminded me that there was “a free DSLR flash and free ground shipping included”. The whole package was available for $999.00. In a moment of convenient weakness I bought the package. I asked for an E-mail with an itemized description of this new agreement and total cost, but I never received it.
There was some difficulty getting the package shipped “on time”. As it was nearing the holiday and I was anxious to have it before Christmas I agreed to have it shipped by 2-day air for an additional $20.00.
I received the camera package. Unfortunately, the merchandise that arrived was not at all what had been described and agreed upon. The invoice prices were not itemized; everything was listed as a “special package”. The camera body was a Nikon D40x as expected. The lenses however, were quite different. I was expecting upgraded Nikon 28-70mm and 70mm-300mm lenses. Instead, I received a standard Nikon 18-55mm and a standard Sigma (not Nikon as expected) 55-200mm and neither was “upgraded” to macro and/or vibration reduction. There was no upgraded long life lithium battery or professional rapid charger, only the standard Nikon battery and charger (which is not a 20 minute disposable battery as I had been led to believe). The “free” DSLR flash was not provided. The rest of the “upgraded” items including the case, tripod, and card reader are all of low or dubious quality. Finally, the invoice charged me $100.00 for “shipping and insurance” when ground shipping was supposed to be free and I only agreed to a $20.00 increase for 2 day air shipping. The total on the invoice was $1,099.99.
Needless to say I am very disappointed with this transaction. The merchandise I received was not at all as described or agreed upon in my written and verbal communication with this company. I have returned the merchandise and requested a credit for the entire invoice amount of $1,099.99. Wish me luck! I'm going to need it |

RE: Avoid business with 1wayphoto.com
To all you previous posters: Thanks. I started looking into 1wayphoto after seeing the $649.99 Nikon D80 price. It looked to good to be...true.
Here's what you do: Post the phone number they wanted you to call, with your postings, and their e-mail. (Yeah, yeah; I know epinions doesn't like these things, but you're not attacking unprovoked.)
If you know of other photography-related boards, alert them, too. There's got to be some people, more creative than I, who can make communications difficult for 1wayphoto.
BTW: A previous poster listed "the camera professionals" as another etailer to avoid. My wife got scammed by them. She ordered a GPS unit and got the e-mail to call to confirm the order. The salesman put the pressure on to sell her all manner of no-value-added crap. She's tougher than a Dodge salesman, and resisted all their pressure and imprecations. Three days later, we receive the GPS unit, and an extended warranty, for about 1/2 the cost of the GPS unit. Fortunately, we used our credit card, and immediately challenged the charge. Then, she called the company and had a tough time playing nice.
Get the word out so we can starve these dishonest etailers off the web, before some do-gooder congressman decides we need government help. |
