Finding the right vehicle roof rack for your bike

This was brought up over on the Sporting Goods board, but I figured it would be helpful here too. I've posted in here and in the Outdoor Accessories forum.

I'd imagine that the major roof rack manufacturers have their own "Fit Guides" to determine what type of rack system you need for your car.
