jwskatz's Full Review: Razor E300 Electric Scooter
I have had my Razor E300 for 2 years. The first year it ran great. I could go out and shop, come home not charge it and the next day it ran well again. Then winter came and the scooter sat without running or charging. Spring came and the battery wouldn't hold a charge. I bought a new battery. It's actually 2 batteries that are wired together. Removal of the old battery and installation of the new battery is self explanitory but for those mechanically impaired it comes with instructions and pictures that are easy to follow. After the new battery was installed it ran great. After running it for the spring summer and fall the battery life is about 10 minutes of straight run time. The batteries are supposed to be able to be charged 300 times before replacement. I doubt that I charged the battery 300 times. Batteries cost $35.00 not cheap. So be prepared to spend $35.00 every year to replace the batteries if you use this as a commuter or errand vehicle.
Now for the fun part! I am 46 years old 5'4" 120 lbs., live in New York City and have 2 children in grade school. I'm the multi-tasking mom. I tell everyone I have 4 jobs. In order to do these 4 jobs and still have time for myself I use my E300. I go to the grocery, drugstore, farmers market, bank and back in about 1 hour. If I had to walk or heaven forbid drive these things would take me all day and I would be running to pick up the kids at 3pm. The scooter is very efficient.
The frame is sturdy. The handle bars fold almost flat for storage. It won't fit under a bed but it will fit nicely in the trunk of a car. Handle bars are also high adjustable. There is a nice twist and go grip and hand brake. To view the charge there are two lights, red for full charge yellow for low charge. By the time the yellow light comes on it is usually to late. I have never been stuck anywhere but I have had the scooter "crawl" home.
People always ask me:
How fast does it go? I tell them fast enough to get me through traffic to run my errands and home.
How long does the charge last? Not long any more. I carry the charger with me and charge it when possible. Also, it has a regenerative braking system. Which charges the battery a little when you coast or brake. So down hill is great!
I got the scooter instead of a bike because I can take it anywhere with me. I take it into the grocery and wheel it around the isles with a basket on the platform. Works great. I take it in the bank and everywhere I go so does my scooter. The bike I would have to lock up outside. Not so good in NYC where everything gets stolen.
My kids love it. I sometimes ride one on it with me and it performs well. I am 120lbs. and kid 40lbs. Plus they have the push Razor and I can easily stay out with them all day and keep up with their large amount of energy. Without my Razor E300 I would just me an old mom who could not keep up.
Performance slows up hill and when going against the wind but at least I am still beating the cyclists.
There is a lot of complaints from the males in the world who expect a $169.00 battery rigged scooter to perform miracles but they need to be realistic. If they would have rigged this up themselves they would be bragging about how AWESOME it is.
It is not a toy and this scooter should not be treated as such. It is a great mode of transportation in a big city. Just don't plan to take it into the subway. It does way an impressive 45 lbs.
