priceskydiver's Full Review: Sanford 70531: Design Kneaded Rubber Art Eraser
I am infactuated with art, producing, viewing and every intermitten step. I have taken classes since I was in elementary school. Charcoal and pencil are my mediums. The power of a dark stroke in contrast to a blended grey is enough to wisk me away into another dimension. Hopefully art has had such an impact on you. The artist can only have as much impact on us as his tools have had an impact on his media. With that being said the importance of having quality products is utmost important. I consider myself a specialist of pencils and can spot the difference between 9b and 6b at a yard's pace, I therefore have dealt with a lot of erasers and stylus products, etc. This kneaded eraser by Sanford is a good solid dependable eraser, though it falls short of all expectations makes up for it with being all around good if not great. I need an eraser that is very malleable, and has good texture. A great smudge to erase ratio (don't worry I"ll explain) as well as a nice size. Affordability is always an issue with me, and I bet it is with you as well.
Malleability If an eraser can't be shaped to what you need it for, no pun intended, it doesn't doo much good. There is a difference between this product and the pink block you might find in every 3rd grader's cubby hole. The point being I have to get into hard to erase areas, as well as be pliable to not get the art I want to keep. The texture you want to be soft enough to move but rigid enough to stay in one place. I have had some from art kits that were as hard as steel and just smudged and others as soft as putty that just did not move how I needed it to. The Sanford 70531 is a great combo of both sides. This is its' strong point. It is the whole reason I fell in love with the eraser. It also can fall apart readily though, it happens so it falls again from perfect to above mediocre.
Smudginess Sometimes smudge is good it blends it smooths it create effects not produced by other forms. Other times it is your worst nightmare. I've been there too, that late night project that just got screwed over. We want one that erases of course but I have found I can achieve looks with the kneaded eraser the blunt stylus can't do. Once again, this edges out the competition, but not by much. It seems to erase ok, but sometimes it may need a second pass.
Size It is a good fit for the hand a little on the smaller side, which is better than having a large hunk that hurts your palm after a while. I have usually just bought two and kneaded them together.
Price Read cheap. These things are the cost of a couple packs of Ramen noodles. Well worth it when it comes to price
