Whatever you may think about the United States Post Office as a delivery of mail and packages service, put aside today and go through your cupboards this morning and make up a bag of non-perishable food items to give to them. These will be distributed to needy folks in your community through local food banks, pantries and shelters.
I'm sure many of you out there have extras from your Y2K storage items that will probably go bad before the year is out and you get a chance to consume them. We Americans are so overloaded with food in cupboards, it isn't funny. Couldn't resist that 5 for $1 mac & cheese sale but now you're on your summer diet? Get rid of them. This is a great time to get rid of all that stuff you shouldn't eat any ways. In turn the shelters will make a special treat for someone who probably hasn't had a can of clam chowder in a long time. Last year, NALC food drive resulted in over 58.4 million pounds of food being delivered to local community food banks. This food will help feed nearly 30 million children and adults that need assistance to fight hunger.
This year's drive is being sponsored by the
* National Association of Letter Carriers
*Campbell's Soup Company
*Local United Way organizations
*AFL-CIO Community Services
*Saturn auto retailers and
*United Auto Workers union Partnership Initiative
Your letter carrier will collect non-perishable food donations along their postal routes, bring them back to their postal station and then they will distributed.
If you have any questions just email

Give generously by placing grocery bags of non-perishable items in or near your mailbox before your letter carrier arrives or take it to a designated area at your local post office.
