| misharenu99's Full Review: Drexel University |
When I graduated from college I wasn't ready to find a 'real' job, so I decided to continue my education by getting a master's degree. I performed all sorts of on-line searches and talked with lots of people about where I might get the degree I was seeking..
Drexel University was one of the few universities offering my major. I requested information and received it in a timely fashion. When I received the packet it was the first school that I could see myself attending. I was really excited about this.
I sent in my application and heard nothing. They had deposited my check, but I hadn't heard one word. By the time summer came around I had been accepted to Carnegie Mellon (CMU) in Pittsburgh and had sent in money to 'save my place.'
The assistant to the director of the program called and asked if I were available for a phone interview. I said I was, wondering why they were calling so late. After the interview I was invited to attend their program with a dean's fellowship. Unfortunately this only covered 1/2 the tuition, I was offered a similar package at CMU.
As CMU already had my money, I told Drexel that I would rather go there but would need to have an assistantship (that covers tuition with an additional minor stipend). After much searching, phone calls, going there for an interview, and plain old hassle; I received an assistantship.
Thankfully the hassle was worth it. I have been delighted with Drexel, Philadelphia, the students and my department. I tell you this tale because I want you to know that Drexel is a wonderful school but that, if it is your first choice, you might want to keep on top of your application - because they aren't going to.
