| kelinrose's Full Review: Lake Bistineau State Park |
Want a taste of Louisiana without having to pay very steep prices? Then you must go to Lake Bistineau state park, where the beauty of Louisiana can be seen in this place. You must look for it to find it, as it is outside a small rural town called Doyline.
There is plenty to do there, while you are there, if you wish to do some camping then the campsite is a good place for you to be. For sixteen dollars a night, you can have a nice camp site, this is not a cabin in the least. It does have running water and electricity for each site. Or for a bit more, at eighteen a night, you can have a premium campsite. Which includes electricity and water as well.
Now for those that want to have cabin experience, you go and visit the lodging area, there are several different places to choose from. $70 a night will get you a roof over your head, a kitchen, bathroom, dining area and enough places to sleep for 6 people. If there are more of you then for $90 a night, you have a kitchen, bathroom, dining area and enough places for 8 to sleep.
If you are planning a group outing with more than 8 people, I suggest you try the standard lodging cabin which sleeps up to 12 people, has a beautiful view of the lake, and is almost as good as a home. It's a bit steep though at a $125 a night, but in my opinion it is well worth it.
If you would like a camp type feeling, then there are group camp areas, group II camp area is $150 a night, this includes a dining hall and kitchen, and 6 cabins, that sleep up to 80 people. These cabins all have bunk beds in them.
There is almost Group I camp area, which has 20 cabins that sleep up to 160 people, and has a dining hall and kitchen, plus a swimming pool. The cost for this cabin is $400 a night. In these group areas the bathrooms are separate, so be prepared to use flip flops or water shoes to get around, as the areas has pine trees scattered about the place.
The park also has a separate swimming area you can go to and get a good swim into clean water. There used to be a area to swim in the lake, but I have not been in that area in a while.
This state park also has a boat launch for great fishing, anything from bass to catfish. They also have great nature trails, which includes a hiking trail, a biking trail and a horse trail. Also they have a nature center, which is great for the kids to learn more about nature.
If you wish to go during the summer, I suggested booking your cabin/campground site now, because they book up quickly, and throughout the year.
Although its hard to find, I'm sure you'll return to this great and wonderful place in Louisiana. There is a ton of internet information out there as well, one link is http://www.crt.state.la.us/Parks/ibistino.aspx which shows you how to get there, and information on the park itself, on how it became Lake Bistineau. There is also tons of floor plans of the cabins, and locations of the camp grounds.
