Pardon the title, but I could not resist not writing a little something about this airline. I feel obligated to inform all those who are trying to get a bit of information prior to purchasing ticket under this carrier. Well here's the ordeal that I had to face.
Routing: Manila, Philippines, - Hong Kong, SAR (vv)
Check-in. Check-in was no way can get faster than a struggling and starved caterpillar . We only had 2 agents checking us in at the counter. Whilst the agent checked us in, she managed to get intrigued with some of the passengers (who happen to be child stars), left the counter and approached those "child stars" and asked if she can get a photo of them (without advising us that she will be back). No fault, I guess I could not penalize her for being one of the "child stars" supporter.
The flight was an hour delayed with no announcement from the gate agent. No reason why the flight was delayed.
We finally boarded an old 747-400 aircraft. The flight was full, and the aircraft stank. There was this distinctive smell similar to a rotten garbage (no wonder it deserves its title).
I was assigned on an emergency exit rows. Usually, I ask for these rows as they are roomy, but not on my "ill/sick days". I happen to ate something bad that morning and was not feeling well all through out. So, since I think I am not going to be able to perform the duties of a passenger who can assist FA's in case of an emergency, I asked to be re-seated. FA's said "the flight is full so let's just hope that this plane will not crash". I mean, that is not tolerable by all means.
Flight attendants are required to ask all passengers seated on exit rows if they are able to help FA's in case of emergency, evacuate all passengers...etc. This flight, that was totally ignored.
Seat pitch - although nobody sat in front of me (other than those almost retiring, flight attendants), I saw the others having trouble adjusting their seats (maybe is malfunctioning). Otherwise, based on experience with PAL before, PAL is very stingy when it comes to "seat pitch".
Bathroom, not at best condition. FA's had to close one of the lavatories since the toilet ran out of service.
I had a special meal that time. It's a good thing that it will only be a 2 hour flight, no biggie. I ordered for "no peanut" meal. Sure thing my food did not contain any traces of nuts, but sure they managed to serve me with grilled tomato topped with rice." and that's it, period.
Once landed, our baggage was delayed for no reason. Had to wait 45 minutes staring at the carousel (baggage claim conveyor). To make things worst, they managed to damage my baggage.
Having to go through all of that, I just decided not to make a big deal about the fiasco I encountered. I literally had to close my eyes on my flight back to Manila and managed to keep my mouth shut since I know it will be useless even if I complained.
Make your money worth, do not fly this airliner.
