Pros: Priced right, does the job, small sized powerhouse. Cons: ~none~
We finally broke down and bought a new fan. My sons fan had seen better days. It is so old and dirty and just wasn't worth major cleaning to keep it. It had served him well, but was ready for retirement. Randall likes his room cool, actually closer ...
Pros: Pushes a ton of air, small, attractive Cons: None, really.
There's a misnomer about living in the Seattle area: People think that it rains year-round. As a result, very few people have air-conditioning. Then when summer arrives and we have days that reach 90 degrees, the community flocks to their neighborhood ...
Pros: Compact size, puts out some air, sleek design, safe for curious fingers Cons: wow-that noise
Michigan summer gets hot. Not just hot but sticky-hot for a good three months out of the year. We have central air, but it is old and not energy efficient. Plus we really only need it about 2 weeks in June when summer really gets in full swing. The ...
Pros: Inexpensive, moves plenty of air, seems built to last Cons: Louder than more expensive fans, especially on high setting
I've owned three of these fans (for different parts of my home) for six months. For ten bucks, I can't imagine anyone finding a better fan. It is definitely loud at highest setting. At its lowest setting, it's still pretty effective, and the noise ...
Pros: powerful yet quiet (even after six years) Cons: none

Steer clear of Target model by peterbb ,Jul 31 '07
Pros: Cheap, compact Cons: weak bordering on useless
I recently purchased a Honeywell HT-800-TGT at Target. (I presume the TGT suffix indicates it a model produced and/or packaged specifically for Target).
I brought it home, plugged it in, and was gravely disappointed. Despite the Vornado-esque styling, this thing hardly stirred a breeze on the highest setting.
I did note that the packaging describes the Target model as a 7" fan, while other descriptions of the HT-800 state that it is an eight-inch fan. It does seem possible that there are other version of this fan that might perform better.
I took this one back to Target for a refund.
Then I went to my local Ace Hardware, which has fans running on a display, and picked out the Lakewood WC-8, which blows the Honeywell HT-800-TGT away. (See my review of the Lakewood WC-8).
Pros: Cheap, reliable, creates a nice breeze in a medium sized room. Cons: Fixed. Cannot rotate otherwise than manually moving the whole unit.
Been using it 3 summers in a row. Not a problem. Quiet enough on 2 lower speeds, becomes a bit loud on high speed, but hey, it moves LOTS of air in all setups!
