LODGE CAST IRON COOKWARE : FOR INDOOR OR OUTDOOR COOKING IT CAN'T BE BEAT!

by phineaskc Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Jan 26 '01
Pros: Durable cookware at reasonable prices
Cons: Weight of the cookware could be an issue for some.
I have bragged about the Lodge brand cast iron cookware in a couple of reviews and with good reason. Not only is the cookware durable but you can add on to your collection without spending a great deal of money.

Cast iron cookware is...

This cast iron dutch oven rocks!

by amarand , Feb 15 '01
Pros: Great density for even heat distribution. 100+ years of experience!
Cons: Heavy, needs to be seasoned before use, included directions printed in very small type.
It says "since 1896" on their web-site, and it shows. They've improved the process ever so slightly, and ever so slowly, over the years. The casting process is completely outlined on their site. It's not like it's a secret, patented process or...

Another old fashioned item remains the best

by esaperst , Feb 05 '01
Pros: Heat distribution, outdoor cooking capabile, handles high heat, imparts a taste.
Cons: Heavy, rusts if not cared for, imparts a taste.
Cast iron cookware is great if you know how to use and care for it. It remains the best heat distributing material available at the lowest cost. Properly seasoned there's not a thing in the world that will stick to it. If you burn something past the...

It's all about the little cleats

by haledr , Jan 04 '02
Pros: Cheap, solid, nothing like it
Cons: Must be cared for and REALLY heavy
A non-coated cast iron dutch oven is not to be taken lightly. First of all, it is quite literally very, very heavy. But it's also a piece of cookware that is not completely bulletproof. That is to say, it needs some TLC to stay in good shape.

Perfect for Fried Chicken

by kskopitz , Jul 17 '01
Pros: Holds heat well, cooks well. Durable and inexpensive.
Cons: Not terribly attractive,a little difficult to clean, heavy.
I grew up around cast iron skillets, but never saw the need for one myself--I remembered all too well how difficult they were to lift, if nothing else.

A few months ago, Cook's Illustrated recommended the Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven for...
