Pros: One of a kind, plenty of things to see and learn Cons: Crowded, expensive
It seems every time I go to Paris, I'm drawn back to Versailles. My last trip there, in late October, marked the third time I visited the chateau and its magnificent grounds. There is so very much to see and do at this famous World Heritage site that a ...
The Chateau de Versaillesor Versaillesis a house of legend. Even as a child stuck in rural Georgia I knew of Versailles. Of course I didnt know much more about Versailles other than that it was a very big, ...
Pros: Magnificent, overwhelming yada yada... Cons: ...crowding can be overwhelming.
When you visit the Chateau of Versailles it isn't hard to see why the French monarchy was overthrown. At first I'd put it down to typical French revolutionary exuberance- their riot police look like Judge Dredd characters for good reason- and a ...
Pros: Stunning Chateau, well-kept interiors, extensive guides and tours, plus gardens! Cons: Really takes a full day to view properly!
If you have never been to Versailles let me warn you: you will probably need a full day to explore the castle, gardens, fountains, artwork, furniture and other mini-castles located on the grounds. I have visited twice now and both times marvel at the ...
Pros: An architectural stunner with baroque gardens and history to die for Cons: none, this is one of the best experiences in France.
Versailles will knock you sideways. The palace is magnificent and so extravagant it will not leave your mind for days afterwards. Without doubt one of the best palaces in Europe, maybe even the best, and despite the crowds and expense probably the best...
Pros: A fabulous day out Cons: One day is not enough, you will be exhausted !
If you are going to Paris, my advice is forget Disneyland, go to Louisland! Here you can experience what life was like in the days of Louis the XIVth, at least for the well off in society. But this place is huge, so you will either have to be selective ...
Pros: Magnificent architecture, gardens and fountains Cons: Extensive grounds mean a lot of walking, cannot be seen in one day

King Louis the XIV of France built the palace of Versailles as his new capital, rather than the Louvre in turbulent Paris. He wanted to assert his power as Europe's preeminent power, and...
Do Not Forget the Gardens of Versailles by rebecca51 ,Apr 18 '06
Pros: Beautiful and full of surprises. Cons: Versailles can get very crowded. Stay away July and August when most tourist visit.
The palace is wonderful to see. However, the gardens are the true treasure of Versailles. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy eating in one of the gardens many private spots. The crowds leave for lunch so this is a great time to have the gardens to yourself. I love to sit in a shady spot with a picnic lunch and pretend that Marie Antoinette is just around the corner.

Pros: Its a must see. Cons: Its a must see.
Of course, its a must see if you make the trip to Paris. We took the RER train rather than take a tour because it was much less expensive and its totally unnecessary to have a guide. You can get the audiotape and earphones or use a guidebook for all the information you want to learn.
Most important of all is not to plan on being in the palace in the morning because the crowds are enormous, packed, wall to wall. There are children on school trips and tour bus-loads of passengers and the line to get into the front door is 90 minutes long.
We made that mistake and then, after leaving and walking around the town of Versailles, we walked past the palace again on our way to the train station and there was no line at all and that was around 3:00. How much more pleasant and enjoyable it would have been to be inside then, and not feel suffocated by the crowd.
Pros: beautiful, amazing Cons: dont miss your tour, that can be quite annoying
I went to visit paris in november of 2004 and while there i decided to visit the Palace of Versailles. The Palace is amazing, very large, wtih the hall of mirrors which is beautiful. once outside of the palce one would be astonished by the beauty of the gardens. It is very easy to spend a half a day there, bring a camera and lots of film its definetly worth it.
